Outdoor Living

Do you enjoy spending time outside but need to give your patio, lanai, or backyard a make-over?  There are so many possibilities to enhance your area. One of the best ways to jazz up your space is to add function, style, and beauty in you outdoor living room.

When designing your outdoor living space, try creating multiple areas. Picture a sitting area set up like your family room with an area rug, table, sofa, and chairs. Be mindful and chose items that will withstand the weather. Another great area to include is a dining area with a table and chairs…there are so many textile options available so you can find a set to match your style. If you like to entertain and want to keep the entire party outside, consider an outdoor kitchen and bar. With all of these options, you are expanding your inside décor outward.

Think about the patio, lanai, or backyard as another room or an extension of your home. Depending on how you decide to decorate, it can appear to be another room of your house or it can be transformed to feel like an escape or a tropical paradise. Always consider your surroundings when planning. If you need to create privacy, consider installing flowing drapes, adding a decorative trellis or fence, or planting some tall grass or plants as a border to your wonderland. Plants can be a great decorative element and enhancement. Potted plants can be easily moved around, but if you prefer a more permanent residence, try adding raised garden beds for plants, flowers, and herbs.

Being outside, try to incorporate neutral airy colors that will compliment nature. Don’t worry about it being too boring….you can always add pops of color to spice things up. Speaking of spicing things up….how about some artwork?  Throw pillows, table centerpieces, and wall art placed are all great options. And don’t forget the ambiance! Add a fireplace or firepit to cozy up to when the weather cools off or to make those s’mores. Hang lanterns, string lights, or surround yourself with candles to bring additional intimate lighting. As always, stay true to what you like and have fun decorating!
